About

One of the first websites ever to focus entirely on fictional food, The Geeky Chef was created in December 2008 by Cassandra Reeder, who now has to come to terms with the fact that her little blog is old enough to get a driver’s license.

Cassandra in San Francisco the
year Geeky Chef was created.

Before dedicating herself completely to the pursuit of recreating fictional foods, Cassandra worked in various cafés, taverns, and eateries along the west coast. In these dens of sustenance, she honed her skills in the ancient art of espresso alchemy, survived the perilous gauntlet of brunch service, and aided weary adventurers in need of a strong elixir. She has since retired from the chaos of food service and hospitality, but the muscle memory of dodging scalding coffee and appeasing hungry masses remains strong.

The resemblance
is uncanny.
The goal of Geeky Chef will always be to help the geek community bring their food fantasies to reality, and hopefully, to inspire those who might not usually be drawn to cooking to step into the kitchen. So, if you've ever found yourself drooling over Pumpkin Pasties, curious about Lembas Bread, or wondering if the cake is really a lie, this blog is for you. Each dish is lovingly researched by a fanatical culinary tinkerer to ensure the final creation tastes and/or looks as close to the source material as possible, while still being approachable for novice cooks. Of course, everyone will imagine things differently, but Cassandra hopes to give home cooks a solid starting point. And perhaps even ignite some new geeky obsessions along the way...

Posts are less frequent these days as Cassandra juggles motherhood and cookbook creation, but she still occasionally conjures up a recipe for the blog whenever inspiration (or caffeine) strikes. She is also in the process of updating and reformatting older recipes on the blog, restoring lost posts, and digging through a mountain of spam comments to rescue any real ones that may have slipped through the cracks.

Cassandra lives in Portland, OR, with her husband and two adorable goblin minions. Despite the suspicious number of goblins in her household, she is not actually a glam goblin overlord (much to her disappointment). She might be a Wookie, though. DNA test results to follow.
