Ambrosia
From the Battlestar Galactica television show
Well, it’s New Year’s Eve, and I’m sure many of you toasters are gearing up for a night of alcohol consumption, so why not do it Battlestar style? While the word "Ambrosia" means "food of the Gods" in Greek mythology (a theme that pops up a lot in Battlestar), no one really knows what the Battlestar version actually is. Some folks claim it’s absinthe or maybe a type of wine, but let’s be honest... that’s a bit too boring for our tastes. Today, I’m sharing a recipe for an ambrosia-inspired mixed drink that’s bright green and guaranteed to get you good and frakked for the new year. So, here’s to ringing in 2009... Happy New Year! So say we all!
Ingredients
- 1 ounce Melon Liqueur*
- 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
- 1/2 ounce Lime Juice
- 2 to 3 dashes Citrus Bitters (optional)
- 2 to 3 ounces Prosecco, chilled
Directions
- Add the melon liqueur, simple syrup, lime juice, and bitters to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake for 10 to 15 seconds.
- Strain into the serving glass.
- Add ice to taste.
- Top off with prosecco.
* If you like a dryer drink, swap the melon liqueur for green herbal liqueur like Chartreuse. You may need to also add a couple drops of chlorophyll or green food coloring to get the color right.

Tooter Fish Popkin! (Dark Tower's Tuna Fish Sandwich)
ReplyDeleteRoland Deschain has always had a bit of trouble speaking our speech. He pronounces tuna fish as tooter fish. Aspirin is Astin. Now a Popkin is High Speech for sandwich. But I digress... Anyways, make your favorite gunslinger's favorite sandwich, and keep in mind it makes two sandwiches (enough to share with your ka-tet!) Remember the face of your father.
Thankee-sai.
1 6oz. Can of Tuna
1/4 cup mayonnaise (or to taste)
1/2 celery stick (cut into small cubes)
2 Tblsp sweet relish
1 tsp dill
4 pieces of wheat bread
cracked pepper
Open and drain tuna. Put into a mixing bowl. Cut up the celery and add to bowl. Throw everything else in (excluding the bread and pepper!). Mix. Put tuna on bread (two sandwiches) and add cracked pepper.
Alright, I gave you something to work with.. now make it work.

Ooh, good ones! Definitely going up here soon. Thankee big-big!
ReplyDeleteHah! And thanks to the green color it can double as Deus Ex 1 ambrosia. Hopefully I'll manage not to SPEEL MY DREENK.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog by googling "Ambrosia," and it's freaking (fracking) amazing. I can't wait to surprise my boyfriend with some nerdy recipes. :D
